This year, Festival of German Cinema 2021 is honored to have the well-established director JIA Zhangke and professional actress ZHAO Tao, participate as the Chinese Ambassadors of the festival.

 A Brief Introduction to JIA Zhangke 

贾樟柯简介

导演，作家，制片人。山西汾阳人，1993年就读于北京电影学院。现任第六届中国电影导演协会副会长、国际作家和作曲家协会联合会（CISAC）副主席、山西电影学院院长、上海温哥华电影学院院长。

主要作品包括《一直游到海水变蓝》《江湖儿女》《山河故人》《海上传奇》《二十四城记》《三峡好人》《世界》《任逍遥》《站台》《小武》等。其中，处女作《小武》获柏林电影节青年论坛大奖，《三峡好人》获第63 届威尼斯国际电影节最佳影片金狮奖。2010 年，贾樟柯获瑞士洛迦诺国际电影节荣誉金豹奖。2013年，获第68届戛纳国际电影节最佳编剧奖。2015年，获戛纳国际电影节导演双周单元终身成就“金马车奖”。

Director, writer, producer. Born in Fenyang, Shanxi, China, graduated from Beijing Film Academy.

His major works include Xiao Wu (1998), Platform (2000), Unknown Pleasures (2002), The World (2004), Still Life (2006), 24 City (2008), I Wish I knew (2010), Mountains May Depart (2015), Ash Is Purest White (2018), and Swimming Out Till The Sea Turns Blue (2020). His debut feature Xiao Wu won the grand prize at The International Forum of New Cinema in the 48th Berlin International Film Festival. In 2006, Still Life won the Golden Lion at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival. Jia Zhang-Ke received the Leopard of Honor of the 63rd Festival del film Locarno in 2010. In 2013, he won the award for Best Screenplay at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival. In 2015, Jia Zhang-ke was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award Carrosse d’Or (Golden Coach) at the Cannes International Film Festival.

 A Brief Introduction to ZHAO Tao 

赵涛简介

中国女演员、制片人。山西太原人，毕业于北京舞蹈学院，2000年出演贾樟柯执导的《站台》步入影坛。2006年由她主演、贾樟柯导演的《三峡好人》获得第63届威尼斯国际电影节金狮奖。2012年，凭借意大利影片《我是丽》获得第56届意大利电影大卫奖(意大利电影金像奖)最佳女演员奖，成为史上第一个获得该荣誉的亚洲女演员。2013年，获圣马力诺电影节杰出艺术成就泰塔奖。2014年，获第39届意大利国际新现实主义电影节的杰出艺术成就金湖奖。2016年，凭借《山河故人》获得第33届迈阿密电影节最佳表演奖。2019年，凭借《江湖儿女》获得第54届芝加哥电影节、第25届明斯克国际电影节、第12届澳大利亚亚太电影大奖最佳女演员奖，之后凭借该片获得第54届美国国家影评人协会奖(NSFC)最佳女演员亚军。2020年，获邀成为美国电影艺术与科学学院会员并获得奥斯卡金像奖评委资格。同年，被美国《纽约时报》评选为21世纪最伟大的25位演员，位列第八，是唯一入选的华人演员。在表演事业之外，2007年，担任监制的纪录片《无用》获第64届威尼斯电影节最佳纪录片奖，2020年，作为电影监制参与贾樟柯导演最新作品《一直游到海水变蓝》的制作。

Chinese actress, producer. Born in Taiyuan Shanxi. Graduated from Beijing Dance Academy, started her acting career with Jia Zhang-Ke’s Platform in 2000. In 2006, she starred in Still Life and the film won the Golden Lion at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival. With Shun Li and the Poet (2011), she became the first Asian actress to win the David di Donatello Award, the Italian Oscar for Best Actress. In 2013, she won the prize of Titano D’oro for her outstanding artistic achievement at the San Marino Film Festival. In 2014, she was awarded the Prize of Outstanding Artistic Achievement at the 39th Laceno D'oro International Film Festival. In 2016, with Mountains May Depart, she was awarded Best Performance prize at the 33rd Miami Film Festival. In 2019, with Ash is Purest White, she was widely acclaimed with laurels as Best Actress at the 54th Chicago International Film Festival, the 25th Minsk International Film Festival, the 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards, and the 54th National Society of Film Critics Awards (NSFC). In 2020, she was invited to become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, as veritable judges for the Academy Awards (Oscar). In the same year, the New York Times ranked her the eighth on its list of the 25 Greatest Actors of the 21st Century, and she’s the only Chinese actor to be listed. Her major works as producer include Useless (2007) which won the Horizons Award for Best Documentary at the 64th Venice International Film Festival, and JIA Zhang Ke’s latest documentary film Swimming Out Till the Sea Turns Blue (2020).

Festival of German Cinema in China 2021 is organized by German Films, supported by the Goethe-Institut China and Broadway Cinemas. Since 2013, the Festival of German Cinema has been dedicated to providing contemporary German films and promoting Sino-German cultural exchanges.
