刘炜，1989年毕业于中央美术学院版画系，在1991年的展览上被粟宪庭发掘，进而被冠以“玩世现实主义”领军的头衔。
促使其声名鹊起的“革命家庭”系列是刘炜对传统教条主义与刻板烙印的一次反抗，而后的“游泳”系列更是直击封闭社会风气之下最无法宣之于口的男女关系，试图以此唤醒人性的本源。
刘炜的作品一直持续着此类视觉和议题的双重冲击与争论，但值得关注的是，刘炜在其三十年的艺术创作中，从未被桎梏在某种风格定式中，而是不断尝试艺术创作的新方法，力图在多样的艺术媒介和语汇选择中坚持自身对绘画的新鲜感。

The "revolutionary family" series that made him famous was Liu Wei's resistance to traditional dogmatism and stereotype. The later "swimming" series directly attacked the relationship between men and women that could not be publicized under the closed social atmosphere, trying to awaken the origin of human nature.
