There are various interpretations of the word “RETURN”, and we, curators of Arbre Art Centre, are particularly interested in three of them: go back from one place to another, reenact a scene or a feeling, or go back to a previous state. We are curious about how people respond to these meanings. We are glad to invite everyone to interpret the concept in one’s own art forms. Will there be any hidden connection between all of our responses? And what does this “returning” action mean to us?

Every individual that exists in this vast and wild planet is moving along its own life track. Whenever we feel exhausted, confused, aimless, or have lost our faith of anything that we have insisted on, we will be inevitably dying to return to the starting point.This starting point might be the sweet home that provides us with warmth and strength. It could be the hug from the loved ones that we deserved before setting foot on our own journey. It could be the soft womb that wrapped us with amniotic fluid before we came to this world... And of course, some people might refuse to look back. Once they have made up their own minds, they would not hesitate whatsoever.Whether you choose to return, stay, or move forward, Arbre Art Centre hopes to be your temporary “homestay”, preserving your responses to the "RETURN" action. Here you may find new inspiration, connect your work with this art space or even the community; or you may simply recognize this space as a place to freely present our personal expression.Our focusing point is the various expressions from different artists that responding to the same theme – “RETURN”.In this group exhibition, we will break the original "white box" display mode, and divide Arbre art centre into 12 exhibition spaces; you are now welcomed to apply for one of the spaces per your preference. Just freely use your imagination to present your creativity in it, deliver your artistic expression around the keyword “RETURN”.This is not only an individual exhibition, but also an artistic experiment with others. We are all participating in this experiment: the final expression of each person’s choice becomes a “button”. Everyone who enters the space has the agency to press these buttons. Aren’t you curious about how strangers would press your button to interact with your work?
